Food

Food at A.L.M.A.

At A.L.M.A., we understand how important it is for children to eat delicious, nutritious food!

That’s why all of the meals and snacks we serve are
homemade and prepared daily with fresh ingredients. We especially love to use fruits, vegetables, and herbs from our garden whenever the season allows.

We also know that exposure to different foods is important for
developing healthy eating habits. We intentionally plan our menus to include a wide variety of foods, including dishes from different regions and cultures.

Our meals include fruit, vegetables, grains, and plant-based protein. Periodically, we will also serve dairy, fish, and eggs.
We are a nut-free campus.

Kids in the Kitchen

We love to get our students involved with cooking demos and projects. Working in the kitchen develops important practical life skills and a deeper appreciation for our food. (It’s also a great opportunity to apply math skills and science concepts!)

We start teaching basic cooking skills at the beginning of the year. Once our students are feeling competent and confident in the kitchen, they each get a turn to be Chef of the Day — creating, preparing, and serving their very own meal for our community lunch. We love to see what they come up with!
